What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture consists of inserting thin, sterile, stainless steel needles into a patient at precise locations and depths to alter the body's biochemical and physiological properties, primarily through stimulation of the peripheral nervous system.

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture can assist the body to heal itself by affecting certain physiological changes. For example, acupuncture can stimulate nerves, increase blood circulation, relieve muscle spasms and cause the release of hormones such as endorphins.

What conditions can Acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture is now accepted as effective pain management therapy and a complement to western treatment approaches for acute and chronic pain:

Musculoskeletal and orthopaedic diseases: arthritis, back pain, muscle pain, muscle soreness, joint pain, disc problems.
Pain associated with other conditions e.g. ear pain, skin disease and uveitis.
Some gastro-intestinal and bladder diseases.
